Job Overview

The Senior Director of Medical Affairs is integral to shaping the strategic medical vision within OPEN Health's Scientific Communications division. This position is responsible for leading the creation of comprehensive Medical Affairs strategies and associated medical plans. The Senior Director will also build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizing expertise to transform insights from situation analyses into actionable strategic drivers and solutions for Medical Affairs initiatives.
  • Managing the development and execution of strategic medical content for communication planning, including tailored analytics projects, scientific platform creation, evidence gap evaluations, and detailed tactical plans.
  • Guiding the implementation of these initiatives, ensuring they meet client expectations and adhere to industry standards while promoting innovation in strategy formulation.
  • Overseeing the creation of strategic medical content for new business proposals and assisting in the delivery of customized presentations for potential clients.
  • Facilitating productive discussions during scientific and strategic meetings with clients and external experts to achieve desired results.
  • Promoting continuous enhancement and innovation in processes, methodologies, and deliverables to improve efficiency and quality across all Medical Affairs projects.
  • Providing training and guidance to internal teams on medical strategy.
  • Enhancing and refining the strategic offerings of OPEN Health's Medical Strategy division.
  • Directing the development of tailored medical strategies for each client, fostering collaboration across teams to optimize onboarding and maximize client satisfaction.
  • Monitoring the evolving landscape of Medical Affairs, industry trends, and standards, with a focus on therapeutic area dynamics and pharmaceutical/biotech pipelines; leveraging insights from participation in relevant medical and trade conferences to inform strategic decisions and drive innovation.
  • Championing thought leadership initiatives and nurturing relationships to promote business growth and advance organizational objectives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences (PharmD, PhD, MD, DO) from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a Medical Affairs consultancy, medical communications agency, or within the Medical Affairs division of a pharmaceutical company; prior experience as a Medical Writer or Medical Director is advantageous.
  • Extensive experience in leading the delivery of key Medical Affairs services, particularly in medical plans, evidence generation, stakeholder engagement, and medical communications.
  • Ability to engage in discussions regarding science and strategy with external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Skilled in synthesizing complex market and product information into meaningful, actionable strategic recommendations.
  • Capability to apply expertise across various therapeutic categories and project types.
  • Experience in directing junior team members and fostering their development for optimal performance.
  • Strong project management, time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in presentation development and delivery.
  • Adept at managing multiple competing priorities while ensuring high-quality work and meeting billability targets.
  • Enthusiastic team player with a self-motivated attitude.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS365 applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook; familiarity with online collaboration tools.

Travel Requirements

Willingness to travel 25%-40%, including international travel, may be necessary.
