Job Overview

The Director of Medical Strategy is a key position that reports directly to the SVP of Medical Strategy. This role is instrumental in shaping the strategic medical direction within OPEN Health's Scientific Communications division.

Role Summary

The Director is responsible for leading the creation of comprehensive Medical Affairs strategies and their corresponding plans. This position emphasizes the importance of building and nurturing strong client relationships to ensure that strategic goals are met effectively. Furthermore, the Director will collaborate on business development initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance the company's influence and offerings in the healthcare sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizing expert knowledge to transform situation analyses into actionable strategic drivers and solutions for Medical Affairs components.
  • Overseeing the creation and implementation of strategic medical content for communication initiatives, including tailored analytics, scientific platform development, evidence gap assessments, and detailed tactical plans.
  • Leading the execution of these initiatives, ensuring they align with client objectives and industry standards while promoting innovation and excellence in strategy formulation.
  • Directing the development of strategic medical content for new business proposals and supporting the delivery of customized presentations for potential clients.
  • Facilitating meaningful discussions during scientific and strategic meetings with clients and external experts to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Driving continuous improvement and innovation in processes and deliverables to enhance efficiency and quality across all Medical Affairs projects.
  • Providing training and support to internal teams regarding medical strategy.
  • Enhancing and refining the strategic offerings of OPEN Health's Medical Strategy department.
  • Developing comprehensive medical strategies tailored to client needs, promoting collaboration across teams to optimize onboarding and maximize client satisfaction.
  • Monitoring the evolving landscape of Medical Affairs, industry trends, and standards, focusing on therapeutic area dynamics and pharmaceutical/biotech pipelines; leveraging insights from participation in relevant medical and trade conferences to inform strategic decisions.
  • Promoting thought leadership initiatives and fostering relationships to drive business growth and advance organizational objectives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences (PharmD, PhD, MD, DO) from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a Medical Affairs consultancy, medical communications agency, or within the Medical Affairs division of a pharmaceutical company; prior experience as a Medical Writer or Medical Director is advantageous.
  • Extensive experience in leading the delivery of key Medical Affairs services, particularly in medical plans, evidence generation, stakeholder engagement, and medical communications.
  • Ability to engage in discussions about science and strategy with external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficient in synthesizing complex market and product information into actionable strategic recommendations.
  • Ability to apply expertise across various therapeutic categories and project types.
  • Experience in guiding junior team members to achieve optimal performance through confidence-building and morale enhancement.
  • Strong project management, time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in presentation development and delivery.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities and challenges while delegating effectively and setting clear expectations.
  • Ability to meet performance targets while delivering high-quality work and managing competing priorities is crucial for success in this role.
  • A collaborative, self-motivated team player.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook; familiarity with online collaboration tools.

Travel Requirements

Willingness to travel 25%-40%, including international travel, may be necessary.
