Job Overview

The Senior Director of Medical Strategy is a key figure in steering the strategic medical initiatives within OPEN Health's Scientific Communications division. This position is responsible for leading the creation of detailed Medical Affairs strategies and their associated medical plans. The Senior Director will also nurture and strengthen vital client relationships, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and successful execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizing expertise to transform situation analyses into actionable strategic drivers and solutions for Medical Affairs components.
  • Managing the development and implementation of strategic medical content for communication initiatives, including tailored analytics projects, scientific platform creation, evidence gap evaluations, and comprehensive tactical plans.
  • Guiding the execution of these initiatives, ensuring they meet client objectives and adhere to industry standards while promoting innovation and excellence in strategy formulation.
  • Overseeing the creation of strategic medical content for new business opportunities and supporting the delivery of customized presentations for potential clients.
  • Facilitating meaningful discussions during scientific and strategic engagements with clients and external experts to achieve desired results.
  • Driving ongoing improvements and innovations in processes, methodologies, and deliverables to enhance efficiency and quality across all Medical Affairs projects.
  • Providing training and support to internal teams regarding medical strategy.
  • Enhancing and refining the strategic offerings of OPEN Health's Medical Strategy department.
  • Directing the formulation of comprehensive medical strategies tailored to client needs, fostering collaboration across teams to optimize onboarding and maximize client satisfaction.
  • Monitoring the evolving landscape of Medical Affairs, emerging industry trends, and changing standards, with a focus on therapeutic area dynamics and pharmaceutical/biotech pipelines; leveraging insights from participation in relevant medical and trade conferences to inform strategic decisions and drive innovation.
  • Promoting thought leadership initiatives and building relationships to foster business growth and advance organizational objectives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences (PharmD, PhD, MD, DO) from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a Medical Affairs consultancy, medical communications agency, or within the Medical Affairs division of a pharmaceutical company; prior experience as a Medical Writer or Medical Director is advantageous.
  • Extensive experience in leading the delivery of essential Medical Affairs services, particularly in medical plans, evidence generation plans, stakeholder engagement plans, and medical/value communications.
  • Ability to engage in discussions about science and strategy with external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficient in synthesizing complex market and product information into actionable strategic recommendations.
  • Ability to apply expertise across various therapeutic categories and project types.
  • Experience in directing junior team members and guiding them to achieve optimal performance.
  • Strong project management, time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including outstanding presentation development and delivery capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and challenges while maintaining high-quality work and meeting billability targets.
  • Enthusiastic team player with a self-motivated attitude.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS365 applications and online collaboration tools.

Travel Requirements

Willingness to travel 25%-40%, including internationally, may be necessary.
