Overview

ASML Germany GmbH is seeking a highly skilled Senior Optical Engineer to enhance our DUV Excimer Laser division. This role is pivotal in the specification, design, development, and testing of optical modules integral to our advanced laser systems. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, hardware, and software teams to ensure seamless integration and development of laser technologies. The position may also involve acting as the primary technical liaison for outsourced optical design initiatives, which includes tasks such as defining specifications, selecting optical components, and developing performance models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take charge of engineering responsibilities for the design of DUV Excimer laser subsystems from initial concept to manufacturing transition.
  • Engage in development processes utilizing the ASML Product Generation Process, which encompasses requirements definition, engineering reviews, risk assessments, verification testing, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Contribute to project planning by establishing key deliverables, timelines, and budgets while ensuring alignment of schedules.
  • Generate innovative optical module or system concepts that align with product specifications.
  • Conduct detailed optical design, including component layout and ray tracing for new or enhanced optical subsystems.
  • Perform optical tolerance analysis at both system and subsystem levels.
  • Validate design concepts through prototype builds, testing, and analytical evaluations.
  • Develop and execute test plans, create testing procedures, and analyze test data to draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Diagnose and analyze failures or performance deficiencies in existing systems, collaborating with Reliability and Test Engineers to conduct investigations and propose solutions.
  • Assemble and evaluate opto-mechanical and electro-optic prototypes.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers and CAD Designers to ensure thorough documentation of designs, including Bills of Materials and technical drawings.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering to create designs that enhance manufacturability.
  • Coordinate with purchasing to acquire prototype components for assembly.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to oversee the construction of pilot production assemblies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Master's degree in Optics Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. in the same fields with at least 3 years of applicable experience is required.

  • At least eight years of experience in Optical or Opto-mechanical Design.
  • Experience in Product Development is preferred, including managing Bills of Materials and vendor interactions.
  • Familiarity with Excimer Lasers is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in designing and specifying components for experimental setups and prototype constructions.
  • Ability to conduct systematic experimental measurements with a strong grasp of metrology error analysis.
  • Experience in mounting optical components to reduce mechanically and thermally induced stress, with knowledge of FEA and modal analysis being beneficial.
  • Demonstrated innovation in addressing complex optical design challenges, particularly regarding contamination control and system robustness.
  • Extensive knowledge of optical engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in ray tracing using Optical Design Software (e.g., Oslo, Zemax, Code 5).
  • Competence in using MS Office Suite and electronic communication tools.
