We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Senior Optical Engineer to contribute to our DUV Excimer Laser division. This role focuses on the specification, design, development, and testing of optical modules integral to our advanced laser systems. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, hardware, and software teams to enhance the overall laser system development. This position may also involve acting as the primary technical liaison for outsourced optical design initiatives, which includes tasks such as specifying, selecting, and qualifying both active and passive optical components, developing performance models for optical systems, creating and executing test protocols, and assessing suitable test instruments. Strong analytical skills, troubleshooting capabilities, and effective communication are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume engineering accountability for the design of DUV Excimer laser subsystems/modules/components from initial concept through to manufacturing transfer and ramp-up.
- Engage in development activities utilizing the ASML Product Generation Process, which encompasses requirements definition, engineering reviews, risk assessments, verification testing, and documentation.
- Contribute to project planning, including defining key deliverables, timelines, and budgets while tracking actions and aligning schedules.
- Generate concepts for optical modules or systems that fulfill product specifications.
- Conduct detailed optical design, component layout, and ray tracing for new or enhanced optical subsystems.
- Perform optical tolerance analysis at both system and subsystem levels.
- Validate design concepts through prototype builds, testing, and analysis.
- Develop test plans, create testing procedures, execute tests, analyze data, and evaluate results.
- Troubleshoot and investigate failures or performance discrepancies in existing systems, collaborating with Reliability and Test Engineers to devise solutions.
- Assemble and evaluate opto-mechanical and electro-optic prototypes.
- Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers and CAD Designers to ensure comprehensive documentation of designs, including Bills of Materials, drawings, and procedures.
- Work with manufacturing engineering to create and implement designs that enhance manufacturability.
- Coordinate with purchasing to acquire prototype components for assembly.
- Collaborate with manufacturing personnel to oversee the construction of pilot production assemblies.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
A Master's degree in Optics Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. in the same fields with a minimum of 3 years of applicable experience is required.
- At least eight (8) years of experience in Optical or Opto-mechanical Design.
- Experience in Product Development is preferred, including managing Bills of Materials, vendor interactions, and material procurement for prototyping.
- Familiarity with Excimer Lasers is advantageous.
- Experience in designing, specifying components for, and constructing experimental setups and prototypes.
- Proficient in conducting systematic experimental measurements with a strong grasp of metrology error analysis.
- Experience in mounting optical components to minimize mechanical and thermal stress, with knowledge of FEA and modal analysis being beneficial.
- Demonstrated ingenuity in addressing complex optical design challenges, including contamination control and robustness considerations.
- Comprehensive understanding of optical engineering principles.
- Experience with ray tracing using Optical Design Software (such as Oslo, Zemax, Code 5, etc.).
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic communication systems.
Skills
In this dynamic and innovative environment, you will face new challenges and problems that require collaborative solutions. You will work alongside supportive colleagues in a creative atmosphere that values diverse perspectives.
