Overview

ASML Germany GmbH is seeking a highly skilled Senior Optical Engineer to enhance our DUV Excimer Laser division. This pivotal role focuses on the specification, design, development, and testing of optical modules integral to our advanced laser systems. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with teams in mechanical engineering, hardware, and software design to facilitate the comprehensive development of laser technologies. This position may also involve acting as the main technical liaison for outsourced optical design initiatives, which entails tasks such as defining specifications, selecting and qualifying optical components, and developing performance models for optical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the engineering aspects of DUV Excimer laser subsystems from initial concept through to manufacturing transfer.
  • Engage in development processes utilizing the ASML Product Generation Process, including defining requirements, conducting engineering reviews, evaluating risks, and performing verification testing.
  • Contribute to project planning by establishing key deliverables, timelines, and budgets while ensuring alignment of schedules.
  • Create innovative optical module or system concepts that align with product specifications.
  • Conduct detailed optical design, component layout, and ray tracing for new or enhanced optical subsystems.
  • Perform optical tolerance assessments at both system and subsystem levels.
  • Validate design concepts through prototype builds, testing, and analysis.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, execute testing procedures, and analyze data to evaluate test results.
  • Identify and troubleshoot failures or performance discrepancies in existing systems, collaborating with Reliability and Test Engineers to devise solutions.
  • Assemble and evaluate opto-mechanical and electro-optic prototypes.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers and CAD Designers to ensure thorough documentation of designs, including Bills of Materials and procedural drawings.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering to create designs that enhance manufacturability.
  • Coordinate with purchasing to secure prototype components for assembly use.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to oversee the assembly of pilot production units.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

A Master's degree in Optics Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering is required, along with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. in the same fields with at least 3 years of applicable experience.

  • At least eight years of experience in Optical or Opto-mechanical Design.
  • Experience in Product Development is preferred, including managing Bills of Materials and vendor interactions.
  • Familiarity with Excimer Lasers is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in designing and building experimental setups and prototypes.
  • Strong capability in conducting systematic experimental measurements with a solid grasp of metrology error analysis.
  • Experience in mounting optical components to mitigate mechanical and thermal stress, with knowledge of FEA and modal analysis being beneficial.
  • Demonstrated innovation in resolving complex optical design challenges, including contamination control and robustness considerations.
  • Extensive knowledge of optical engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in ray tracing using Optical Design Software (e.g., Oslo, Zemax, Code 5).
  • Competence in using MS Office applications.
