In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary: The Business Teacher provides a comprehensive curriculum aligned with the State of Michigan Common Core standards while embodying the mission, vision, and values of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. This role involves collaboration with families and colleagues to ensure the academic achievement of students. Regular evaluation and monitoring of student progress are essential components of this position.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent agency.
  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA) with a Business (GX) endorsement.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with educators, parents, and community stakeholders.Facilitate field studies to enhance classroom learning based on student needs.Contribute to grade-level and subject matter discussions and professional development.Encourage parental and family engagement in the educational process.Work with colleagues on school initiatives to promote academic success.Communicate with parents regarding student progress and achievements.Implement rules of conduct and maintain discipline within the classroom and school environment.Support students facing academic and adjustment challenges through counseling and corrective measures.Manage attendance, progress reports, and grading records.Design study programs tailored to students' needs, interests, and abilities.Develop innovative assessments and periodically evaluate student progress.Instruct students on the proper use of educational materials and resources.Maintain an inventory of instructional materials and equipment.Keep accurate and complete student records and prepare necessary reports.Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants: Current employees of the Detroit Public Schools Community District are not required to undergo a new security clearance unless their new role necessitates a different type of criminal background check.

External Applicants: In accordance with Michigan law, candidates hired for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check by the Detroit Public Schools Community District. Information regarding the required background checks will be provided at the time of hire.
