Job Overview

The Behavior Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering behavioral assistance to individual students or small groups within a therapeutic educational setting. This position involves monitoring and documenting student progress in terms of behavior and academic performance, while also executing various responsibilities as assigned by the Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide positive behavioral reinforcement and support to students in a special education environment as directed by school leadership.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior in and out of the classroom, adhering to established protocols; communicate behavioral progress to educators; offer emotional support and guidance to students.
  • Assist in creating an engaging school environment by organizing workspaces, displays, and educational materials; collaborate with teachers to address student needs effectively.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as preparing behavioral documentation, tracking attendance, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Prioritize student health and safety by complying with all relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Carry out additional duties as needed, including substituting for absent educators or support staff.
  • Demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Fulfill other related responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • At least two years of relevant experience in child development, preferably in an educational setting.
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma, along with the required experience. Additional training in psychology, sociology, or education is advantageous.
  • Current certification in Therapeutic Options, with training provided during orientation and annual recertification.
  • Current certification in Adult and Child First Aid, CPR, and AED, with training provided during orientation.
  • Successful completion of background checks, including CPS and fingerprinting, conducted upon hiring and annually thereafter.
  • Completion of annual training sessions as mandated by Dominion Care.
  • Completion of Child Abuse Recognition Training.
  • Completion of tuberculosis screening within 30 days of employment.
