Individual Support Specialist

The Individual Support Specialist is tasked with providing personalized assistance to a student with a recognized disability within an educational environment. The specific responsibilities of the Individual Support Specialist will be tailored to meet the unique needs of the assigned student, which will be discussed further upon assignment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Offer continuous support and oversight to the student, ensuring close proximity throughout the school day in various settings;
- Maintain visual and auditory contact with the student at all times;
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to implement academic and behavioral objectives in line with the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP);
- Conduct daily data collection related to the student's behavioral goals, documenting frequency and duration of specific behaviors;
- Assist the student during transitions between subjects and classes;
- Provide support to the student, including redirection and help with completing assignments, as well as planning and organizational skills;
- Employ strategies to aid the student in developing effective coping mechanisms, problem-solving skills, and conflict resolution techniques for managing inappropriate behaviors;
- Facilitate the development of positive relationships with peers and adults, promoting communication skills by modeling appropriate conduct;
- Implement de-escalation techniques and necessary interventions during crises involving the student;
- Participate in relevant meetings regarding the student, such as IEP and BIP discussions;
- Establish a constructive working relationship with all educational staff, providing regular updates on the student's progress;
- Assist other students in the classroom as required;
- Prepare monthly reports detailing the student's progress towards BIP objectives;
- Document student absences and monitor attendance in accordance with contractual obligations;
- Perform additional duties essential to the positive development of students with exceptional needs.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Valid Driver's License;
- Reliable personal mobile phone;
- Preferred collegiate-level education in behavioral science, special education, or human services, along with substantial experience working with at-risk youth or individuals with disabilities.
