Position Overview

The Chief Financial Strategist will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and oversee the Finance and Accounting team. This role is designed for a hybrid work environment, with a strong preference for candidates located in Minneapolis, while also considering other Alight Hub locations.

The Finance Team

The Finance Department plays a crucial role in guiding and managing the financial resources and reporting for Alight and its affiliates. This includes financial planning, oversight, compliance, and reporting in accordance with US GAAP and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Chief Financial Strategist will be responsible for:
  • Overall financial governance, reporting, and internal control systems, ensuring compliance with audit standards and proper management of donor funds.
  • Establishing robust financial policies, procedures, and reporting systems to safeguard Alight's financial assets.
  • Ensuring legal and regulatory compliance across all accounting and financial reporting functions.
  • Overseeing cost accounting, accounts receivable, and risk management initiatives.
  • Contributing to strategic and operational planning as a member of the Platform Management Team.

Financial Reporting and Compliance

Responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining compliance with US GAAP and international accounting standards.
  • Managing the annual financial audit process and ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Overseeing the preparation of tax reporting and ensuring adherence to donor requirements.

Risk Management and Financial Accountability

Key tasks involve:
  • Fostering a culture of financial leadership and efficiency throughout the organization.
  • Developing a transparent and verifiable finance system.
  • Implementing risk management tools and leading investigations when necessary.

Team Leadership

The Chief Financial Strategist will:
  • Supervise and mentor finance staff, ensuring they are well-trained and equipped to meet expectations.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise managers and Affiliate leaders to manage finance personnel effectively.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A degree in finance or accounting; a master's degree or CPA is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of advanced finance and accounting experience, ideally within the humanitarian sector.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software and experience with government grants.
