Job Overview:

We are in search of a highly qualified individual to take on the role of Education Program Advisor for Nonpublic Schools within the Student & Family Special Education Services sector. This position will be pivotal in providing leadership and guidance for the Department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver information, professional development, and supportive resources for IEP teams and administrators in both public and nonpublic educational institutions to facilitate effective processes, in accordance with federal and state regulations, for students enrolled in accredited nonpublic schools, which includes:
    1. Establishing IEP teams;
    2. Facilitating informed participation in IEP team meetings and related activities involving students, families, service providers, and school administrators;
    3. Formulating IEPs that consider accredited nonpublic schools as a viable placement option for FAPE in the least restrictive environment;
    4. Ensuring the faithful implementation of IEPs and adherence to due processes.
  • Promote meaningful collaboration between area education agencies, school districts, and accredited nonpublic schools, including the creation and dissemination of professional development materials.
  • Design and implement a strategy to identify, assess, and advocate for effective methods and models for delivering special education and related services in accredited nonpublic schools, aimed at enhancing the experiences and outcomes for students with disabilities.
  • Oversee the establishment and sustainability of a statewide network of IEP facilitators, particularly those with specialized knowledge in special education within nonpublic school settings.

Work Hours: 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. Monday - Friday; occasional evenings and weekends, with potential in-state and out-of-state travel.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:

1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and five years of relevant post-graduate work experience in one or a combination of specified areas.

2) A combination of five years of post-graduate education and full-time experience, where twenty-four semester hours of accredited post-graduate coursework equals one year of full-time experience.

3) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree, possession of a valid Iowa Teaching Certificate, and three years of teaching and/or administrative experience in PK-12 or post-secondary education.

4) Possession of a School Business Official Authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and seven years of relevant professional experience in finance, accounting, or auditing.
