Department Overview:

The DC CFAR is a vital component of a national network of 19 Centers for AIDS Research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our mission is to enhance collaborative research efforts aimed at combating the HIV epidemic and improving the health and quality of life for individuals living with HIV in the Washington, DC area and beyond, in collaboration with community and governmental partners. The unique model of the DC CFAR integrates the scientific strengths of nine partner institutions in the region.

Position Summary:

The Center Assistant plays a crucial role in facilitating and coordinating the operations of various research cores within the District of Columbia Center for AIDS Research (DC CFAR). This position serves as the primary liaison among the different cores, ensuring seamless communication and support for core activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist core leadership in managing budgets and tracking expenditures for events and services.
  • Plan, schedule, and evaluate meetings, research activities, and events for multiple cores.
  • Support the Senior Research Project Manager with the pilot awards program and service requests.
  • Coordinate connections between DC CFAR investigators and core services.
  • Monitor, compile, and report on core services and outcomes for annual reporting, ensuring compliance with publication standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of core activities and service provision.
  • Provide administrative assistance for specialized interest groups focused on Women and HIV and Sexual and Gender Minorities.
  • Oversee specific programs aimed at supporting investigators and funding opportunities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the annual report.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED with at least 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a related field, with the degree conferred by the start date of employment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Previous experience in administrative support within a research context is advantageous.
  • A keen interest in HIV research is highly desirable.
