The Center for Global Development (CGD) is a prominent, independent, non-partisan, non-profit policy research institution based in Washington, DC, and London, UK. Our mission focuses on addressing critical issues and institutions essential for inclusive development. Through meticulous empirical research and active participation within the global policy community, we concentrate on the policy intersections involving low- and middle-income nations and the various stakeholders that can facilitate significant progress.
As the Vice President (VP) for Strategy and Research at CGD, you will report directly to the President. This role requires you to be a strategic thought partner and a pivotal leader in several key domains, including the formulation of a vision and strategy that adapts to major transformations in the global development and geopolitical landscape. You will oversee a research framework that culminates in the publication of impactful, rigorous, and relevant outputs while fostering innovative analysis on significant issues and trends.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and manage research portfolios aligned with your areas of expertise.
- Act as a senior policy fellow, engaging deeply in research and analysis pertinent to CGD's objectives.
- Assist the President in crafting a forward-looking vision for CGD that is evidence-based and focused on innovative policy outcomes.
- Oversee the execution of CGD's strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with program goals and activities.
- Facilitate a research process that produces both academic and policy-oriented research that is creative, rigorous, and impactful, involving discussions and peer reviews with both internal and external experts.
- Inspire and support research staff in pursuing innovative ideas and translating evidence into actionable policy outcomes.
- Encourage collaboration and convenings that generate research on significant cross-cutting issues beyond specific sectors.
- Develop and execute strategic research partnerships with academic institutions and organizations.
- Enhance CGD's policy impact through strategic partnerships in collaboration with program and policy outreach directors.
- Work alongside policy outreach directors to devise strategies that elevate CGD's public profile.
- Manage relationships with funders to establish strong, trusting, and substantive long-term partnerships.
- Collaborate with the communications director to amplify CGD's profile and the reach of its research and ideas.
- Engage with key stakeholders and the public to broaden the visibility and impact of CGD's research.
- Participate as a member of CGD's leadership team and contribute to organizational initiatives as assigned.
Compensation: $275,000 - $300,000, commensurate with education, skills, and experience.
Work Environment: The organization operates in a hybrid model, requiring staff to be in the office at least two days per week.
