Position Title: Employment Support Specialist

Program: Supported Employment

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Employment Support Specialist will implement the Supported Employment Program by assisting adults with mental health conditions in securing and sustaining employment aligned with their career aspirations and recovery objectives. The primary focus will be on job development for program participants, which includes identifying and cultivating job opportunities that meet their needs and establishing employer partnerships for situational assessments and work adjustments. The Specialist will also provide education and support to clients in job searching, resume creation, application processes, interview preparation, and maintaining employment, all while employing a trauma-informed approach. Services will be customized to each individual's support requirements, and the Specialist will embody and promote the program's philosophy in all responsibilities.

Hours/Compensation:

This is a part-time, non-exempt role requiring 20 hours per week. The anticipated salary range is $22.00-$24.00 per hour, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package that includes critical illness coverage, accident benefits, a 403b retirement plan (with up to a 5% employer match), paid sick leave, and various employee perks.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Identify and develop job leads that align with the interests and skills of job seekers through various marketing strategies, including outreach and relationship building with local businesses.
  2. Meet regularly with a designated caseload of job seekers to clarify employment goals, identify necessary accommodations, and provide guidance on job searching, resume writing, application mastery, interview preparation, and employment retention.
  3. Facilitate job-seeker workshops focused on skill development in areas such as resume building, interview techniques, and conflict resolution in the workplace.
  4. Maintain accurate documentation of services through case notes, intakes, employment preparation documents, and monthly progress reports.
  5. Promote and uphold trauma-informed practices in all services and activities, ensuring clear, empathetic, and person-centered communication.
  6. Act as a liaison by collaborating with the Program Manager, County Behavioral Health Department, and other treatment agencies to achieve client and program goals.
  7. Participate in regular staff meetings, client intake discussions, and required training sessions.
  8. Provide job coaching services to clients as necessary.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Work Environment:

This role involves moderate physical activity and frequent travel, which may include lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs. It also entails moderate risks requiring safety precautions and the potential for exposure to challenging situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

A BA/BS degree with 6 months of full-time experience in job development or mental health services, or an AA/AS degree with 2 years of full-time experience, or a High School diploma with 4 years of full-time experience in similar fields. Understanding of the needs of individuals with psychiatric disabilities is essential. Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work ethic, and effective oral and written communication abilities are required. Organizational and time management skills are critical, along with the ability to work independently and adaptively. Candidates must demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills, maintaining composure under pressure while engaging with diverse individuals across various backgrounds.

Conditions of employment include maintaining good physical and mental health, possessing a valid driver's license, and meeting transportation and insurance requirements. Attendance is crucial for this role, necessitating face-to-face interactions with clients and colleagues. A commitment to teamwork and professionalism is essential, along with a willingness to comply with safety protocols and training requirements.
