Position Overview

The IT Support Specialist serves as the primary contact for technology assistance.

This role bridges the gap between Business Operations and IT, ensuring that high-quality, prompt, and effective technology support is delivered. Responsibilities are carried out in collaboration with the IT department and in accordance with CalPortland's IT standards and practices. Key technologies managed in this role encompass: end-user computing devices, printers and peripherals, uninterruptible power supplies, networking and telecommunications equipment, audiovisual systems, ready-mix batch control panels, asphalt production facilities, wireless communication devices, timekeeping systems, fuel management systems, mobile technology, and vehicle tracking systems.

Salary Range

$65,000-$72,000, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize CalPortland's standard ticketing system to create and resolve IT issues, providing timely updates on all ongoing support requests, with a focus on client satisfaction.
  • Offer guidance and decision-making support regarding the selection, procurement, and deployment of technology, troubleshooting issues, implementing new solutions, maintaining equipment, and understanding business needs for potential IT enhancements.
  • Provide support for PCs, printers, peripherals, network (LAN/WAN), telephony, and ancillary systems following established CalPortland Service Request and Change Control protocols.
  • Install and upgrade hardware and software, including (but not limited to) PCs, printers, networking devices, and mobile technology for both corporate and production environments.
  • Assess new information systems products or services and recommend modifications to existing products or services to better serve end users.
  • Manage the ongoing hardware refresh process while meeting monthly objectives and maintaining prioritized efforts.
  • Establish and uphold best-practice consistency across all locations as required.
Educational Background

A bachelor's degree is preferred.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years of IT experience is required.
  • This position is on-site and necessitates daily attendance at the regional office; remote work is not an option.
  • Provide mid-level technical support and troubleshooting for all versions of Windows, with knowledge of network devices and fundamentals of network connectivity, as well as PC hardware setup and issue resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and networking challenges.
  • Familiarity with the management and troubleshooting of mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets, and mobile device management tools.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills are essential.
  • Participate in a rotation for responding to high-priority after-hours calls approximately every four months. Our operations run 24/7, requiring support for critical issues during off-hours.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation effectively.
  • Facilitate IT-related activities by coordinating with external vendors to ensure thorough planning and execution of IT initiatives at regional sites.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Highly organized and adaptable self-starter, with attention to detail, capable of managing multiple assignments simultaneously and adjusting priorities as needed in dynamic situations.
  • Must be able to engage in physical activities such as lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs), working under desks, running cables, and installing hardware.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required for travel to regional locations. Company pool vehicles or mileage reimbursement will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior IT experience in a construction or manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in project management.
  • IT certifications are preferred (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft, etc.).
Employment Conditions

The successful candidate must undergo a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screening, and background check. Some positions may require ongoing drug and alcohol testing regulated by FMCSA.
