Position Title:
Employment Support Specialist

Program: Supported Employment

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Employment Support Specialist will implement the services of the Supported Employment Program by assisting adults with mental health conditions in securing and maintaining employment that aligns with their career objectives and recovery.

The primary responsibility of the Employment Support Specialist will be job development for participants in the Supported Employment Program, which includes:

  • Identifying and cultivating job opportunities that align with the interests and needs of the participants.
  • Developing employer partnerships that can facilitate external situational assessments and work adjustments.

The Employment Support Specialist will also educate and assist clients in job searching, resume creation, application mastery, interview preparation, and maintaining employment, all while employing a trauma-informed approach. Services will be customized to meet the unique needs of each individual.

The Employment Support Specialist will uphold and promote the program's philosophy in all tasks performed.



Hours/Salary

Full-time, non-exempt position.

40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional client check-ins on weekends as necessary. The anticipated salary range is competitive and includes a comprehensive benefits package featuring health, dental, vision, life insurance, a 403b retirement plan (with up to a 5% employer match), paid vacation/holiday time, paid sick leave, and various employee perks.



Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Identify and develop job leads that are suitable for the interests and abilities of job seekers through various marketing strategies, including telephone outreach, responding to job postings, and building relationships with local businesses.
  • Meet with a designated caseload of job seekers to clarify employment goals, identify potential accommodations, and educate clients on job searching, resume writing, application processes, interview preparation, and employment retention.
  • Facilitate regular workshops for job seekers that focus on skill development in areas such as resume building, interview techniques, and conflict resolution in the workplace.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services through regular case notes, intakes, employment preparation documents, monthly job development progress reports, job placement and retention reports, and monthly service data.
  • Promote and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities. Advocate for clear, empathetic, and person-centered communication in both individual and team settings.
  • Act as a liaison by consulting, collaborating, and communicating with the Program Manager, local behavioral health departments, and other treatment agencies to meet client and program objectives.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, participate in client intake meetings, and complete required in-service training hours.
  • Provide job coaching services to clients as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Job Environment:
  • Moderate physical activity and frequent driving; may involve moving or lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Involves moderate risks that require safety precautions and the potential for exposure to intense situations.

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS degree with 6 months of full-time experience in job development or mental health, OR AA/AS degree with 2 years of full-time experience in job development or mental health, OR High School diploma with 4 years of full-time experience in job development or mental health.

Awareness and understanding of the needs of individuals with psychiatric disabilities. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style, and effective oral/written communication skills are essential.

Well-defined organizational and time management skills are required. Ability to work independently and adaptively, handle intense situations, exercise good judgment and decision-making skills, and remain calm under pressure.

Must demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or socio-economic status.

Conditions of employment include the ability to maintain good physical and mental health. Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, have at least 2 years of driving experience, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and a driving record that meets the organization's insurance requirements.

Attendance is crucial for this role, requiring face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees. Must comply with a TB assessment and receive a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting. Successful completion of First Aid and CPR training is also required.
