Overview

The Vice President, Sponsor Finance Portfolio Supervisor will assist senior lenders within the Sponsor Finance Group, focusing on portfolio oversight and new transactions. This role encompasses comprehensive financial and qualitative assessments to evaluate a borrower's creditworthiness. The position will engage with both private and potentially public companies across diverse sectors. Senior loans will be executed on a lead agent and participation basis, and at times, as part of a broadly syndicated process that Stifel is facilitating. Alongside supporting new transactions and portfolio management, this role will also contribute significantly to the development of junior staff and, in specific instances, aid in origination and client relationship management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of active borrowers while evaluating new deal prospects.
  • Analyze corporate financial statements and construct LBO cash flow models to support new and existing loans, renewal requests, and amendments.
  • Develop due diligence inquiry lists and coordinate discussions with senior management and private equity clients to address these matters.
  • Assess third-party due diligence reports.
  • Assist in the negotiation and legal documentation of transactions.
  • Lead efforts in new transaction fundings/closings, collaborating closely with counterparties, legal counsel, and Loan Operations.
  • Prepare credit evaluation memorandums, annual and quarterly reviews, and ensure accurate and timely risk ratings.
  • Collaborate with Stifel's Investment Bank and/or Stifel Research during the due diligence process.
  • Regularly engage with private equity clients and executive management at the borrower level.
  • Compile quarterly trend analyses with updates and risk rating assessments for assigned borrowers.
  • Ensure that financial statements and compliance certificates are current.
  • Communicate all pricing adjustments to Loan Operations and ensure effective administration of all aspects of the loan agreement.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of borrower soundness and industry trends.
  • Assist in preparing monthly reports for the Bank Board of Directors, summarizing portfolio trends and key analytics.
  • Support senior relationship managers in sustaining key relationships and proactively build personal connections with other deal professionals or targeted private equity clients as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and compliance with regulations, including the Community Reinvestment Act, Bank Secrecy Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, etc.
  • Advanced understanding of economic principles, accounting practices, financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to identify the strengths and weaknesses of potential deals.
  • Ability to effectively mitigate identified weaknesses through the due diligence process.
  • Capacity to use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions and find acceptable resolutions.
  • Ability to lead discussions with management teams and/or private equity firms.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to foster new relationships with targeted clients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate well with team members and senior management.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, or a related business field or equivalent work experience is required.
  • 3+ years of experience in credit analysis, Sponsor Finance, or Investment Banking is required.
Systems & Technology
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
