Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer will report directly to the President and will be responsible for overseeing the development and management of the budget, leading financial initiatives, and ensuring fiscal accountability. This role serves as a strategic advisor to the President, providing recommendations on financial objectives, policies, and practices that secure a robust financial future for the organization.
Key Responsibilities
The essential functions of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Developing models and reports to assess investment returns, supplying senior executives with critical information for decision-making.
- Coordinating the preparation of operational and financial reports, highlighting progress, identifying adverse trends, and offering suitable recommendations.
- Providing analytical expertise to foster sustainable business models for both academic and operational sectors.
- Ensuring adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and relevant regulatory laws for financial and tax reporting.
- Delivering monthly and annual financial reports to leadership.
- Overseeing the creation, implementation, and management of financial systems and policies.
- Managing the budget preparation process effectively.
- Conducting financial analyses of major programs and capital projects, advising senior executives on investment strategies.
- Supervising financial operations to ensure efficiency and compliance.
- Facilitating the annual budget process, including training and quality control to promote a culture of stewardship.
- Running and analyzing monthly departmental budget reports, ensuring timely distribution to departments.
- Collaborating with Budget Managers to assist in budget monitoring and education.
- Exemplifying core organizational values and maintaining professional communication across departments.
- Utilizing effective communication skills to present information clearly and accurately.
- Engaging in professional development activities aligned with the organization’s goals.
- Maintaining accurate records as required by governing entities.
- Participating in staff meetings and serving on committees as necessary.
- Complying with all relevant policies and legal requirements.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Overseeing the Director of Finance.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years in financial leadership roles is required, preferably within higher education.
The ideal candidate will possess integrity, strong finance and accounting skills, and the ability to communicate financial analysis effectively. A clear understanding of the operational and financial aspects of the organization is essential, along with the capacity to foster a collaborative work environment.
