Position Overview

The Office of the Secretary, Internal Affairs Office is actively seeking candidates for the role of Inmate Appeal Examiner. This position will be based at our central office.

Role Responsibilities

This role involves conducting thorough investigations of inmate grievances that are escalated to the Secretary, along with providing recommendations for decisions and detailed narratives for approval. Key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting affidavits for the Department of Justice concerning inmate litigation.
  • Performing administrative tasks and maintaining records related to the aforementioned duties.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary ranges from $55,889 to $92,206 annually, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package. Salary will be determined in accordance with the Compensation Plan and applicable regulations. A probationary period of 12 months is required.

Job Requirements

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will perform background checks on candidates prior to selection to assess any potential job-related concerns. All new employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Pre-employment drug screenings may be conducted. Candidates offered positions requiring such screenings must successfully pass as a condition of employment. Those who do not comply will not be considered further.

Remote Work Opportunity

This position allows for 100% remote work, with occasional travel as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Experience in reviewing and analyzing investigative findings related to complaints and legal matters for accuracy and compliance.
  • Skills in conducting investigations, including interviewing and evidence management.
  • Ability to interpret laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in implementing and monitoring investigative resolutions and ensuring compliance.
  • Proficiency in preparing detailed investigative reports and communicating findings to senior stakeholders.
