FOIA Compliance Analyst

Job Overview:
Cameo Consulting Group, LLC, a dynamic management consulting firm, is in search of a qualified FOIA Compliance Analyst to deliver support services related to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) for a prominent government agency.
This is a full-time, on-site position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently assess and manage FOIA requests and appeals.
- Prepare administrative decisions on FOIA appeals for supervisory evaluation.
- Conduct thorough legal analysis and make informed decisions based on the merits of FOIA and Privacy Act appeals for review by senior legal counsel.
- Collect, organize, classify, and interpret data from diverse sources, including interviews with knowledgeable individuals, to gain comprehensive insights into the cases.
- Establish and maintain a case file for each appeal arising from initial agency decisions regarding the release or modification of agency records.
- Rectify case file issues (e.g., missing documents, inconsistencies) prior to submitting recommendations for affirmation, denial, or remand, while reviewing relevant precedents to support case summaries.
- Draft final agency decision letters and evaluate the appropriateness of FOIA exemptions.
- Analyze FOIA appeals for potential litigation risks in accordance with statutes, agency regulations, and established case law.
- Identify and address deficiencies in case files before forwarding recommendations for agency decisions.
- Collaborate with agency Risk Managers in managing electronic case databases related to litigation.
- Prepare administrative decisions on FOIA appeals for review by senior management.
- Regularly monitor and update ongoing cases using various electronic systems in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Assist in reviewing, researching, drafting responses, and generating documentation in support of various tasks, including FOIA requests and agency claims.
- Perform detailed reviews of records to determine the appropriateness of exemptions cited by agency officials.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in processing FOIA requests and appeals.
- Familiarity with FOIA Xpress.
- Experience in litigation is required.
- A Juris Doctorate is preferred.
- Exceptional proofreading and editing abilities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
