Critical Care Nurse Residency Program

Newark, Delaware, United States ChristianaCare Full time
Application Overview:
We invite all Senior Nursing Students, Nurse Graduates, and newly licensed RNs to explore our Critical Care Pathway Nurse Residency Track.

Program Accreditation:
The ChristianaCare Nurse Residency Program is recognized with distinction as a Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs.

Benefits of the Program:
Research indicates that newly practicing nurses who complete a structured and accredited residency program experience:
  • Enhanced competency
  • Decreased error rates
  • Lower self-reported stress levels
  • Increased job satisfaction

We are dedicated to supporting all registered nurses with less than one year of experience through a specialized nurse residency track.

Curriculum Highlights:
This engaging curriculum includes:
  • Lecture and simulation-based education
  • Peer support

Preceptor-led clinical experiences designed to promote critical thinking, evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, effective communication, quality and safety, and professional growth.

Training Structure:
The critical care pathway nurse resident will undergo 5-6 weeks of intensive preceptor-led training on a stepdown unit, guided by the critical care nurse residency coordinator, to enhance clinical skills in time management, prioritization, and critical thinking.
Following this training, residents will complete up to 18 weeks of clinical training in their assigned ICU.

Participating Units:
Potential units may include:
  • Surgical ICU (Shock/Trauma)
  • Neuro ICU
  • Medical ICU
  • Cardiovascular ICU
  • Wilmington campus ICU (Medical/Surgical combination)

The critical care pathway nurse resident will complete a total of 26 weeks of preceptor-led training, followed by ongoing residency seminars throughout their first year of practice to further develop as professional nurses and vital members of our healthcare team.

Licensure Requirements:
Nurse residents must successfully pass State Boards and obtain licensure as an RN in the State of Delaware (or a compact state) prior to commencing the position.
Upon hire, a commitment agreement to work at ChristianaCare will be signed, requiring completion of two years within the organization, with 15 months on the unit of hire.
Failure to fulfill this commitment may result in a financial obligation.

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • BLS certification
  • Less than 12 months of nursing experience at the program's start
  • Eligibility for Delaware licensure as a Graduate Nurse/Registered Nurse
  • Experience in Critical Care is preferred

Application Process:
In the application section titled "My Experience," please upload your cover letter and transcripts in the "Resume/CV/Other Documents" section. PDF format is recommended.
Submit a cover letter expressing your interest in the Critical Care Pathway Nurse Residency Track, addressed to the appropriate contact.
Additionally, a resume, transcript (unofficial), and two clinical recommendations will be required, but not at the time of application.

Post-Application Expectations:
Following application submission, candidates will receive communication from the Talent Acquisition Team regarding next steps, including video interviews and clinical reference checks.
Applications will be reviewed by residency coordinators, and candidates must complete required tasks to be considered.
Interviews will be conducted digitally, and offers will be extended to selected candidates.

Important Note:
It is crucial to begin the licensure process promptly, as delays may affect the ability to start the position if an offer is made. We encourage applicants to initiate the fingerprinting and background check process immediately after submitting their application.
