Position Overview

We invite Senior Nursing Students, Nurse Graduates, and newly licensed RNs to consider our Nurse Residency Program: Advanced Care Pathway. This program is designed for individuals with less than one year of nursing experience, offering a structured transition into professional practice.

The ChristianaCare Nurse Residency Program is distinguished as a Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs.

Our commitment is to nurture registered nurses through a specialized residency track.

This dynamic curriculum encompasses:
  • Educational lectures and simulation training
  • Peer mentorship
  • Up to 16 weeks of preceptor-guided clinical experiences tailored to individual transition needs, emphasizing critical thinking, evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, effective communication, quality and safety, and professional growth.
The progressive care nurse resident will engage in preceptor-led training within our intermediate or transitional care units. Continuous residency meetings will be held during the program to support professional development as integral members of our healthcare team.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will establish a solid foundation for nursing practice in a dynamic and challenging environment, providing care for medically complex patients outside of the Intensive Care Unit.

To qualify, nurse residents must obtain State Boards and be licensed as an RN in Delaware (or a compact state) before commencing their role. A commitment agreement to serve at ChristianaCare will be required, stipulating a two-year tenure with a minimum of 15 months on the assigned unit.

3C: Intermediate Medical Unit
3D: Transitional Medical Unit
4E: Cardiovascular Stepdown
5E: Heart Failure Unit

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred)
  • BLS certification required
  • Less than 12 months of nursing experience at the program's start
  • Eligibility for Delaware RN licensure or licensure from a compact state

Expect communication from the Talent Acquisition Team regarding next steps, including video interviews and clinical references. Applications will be reviewed by residency coordinators.
