Nurse Residency Program: Advanced Care Pathway

Newark, Delaware, United States Christiana Care Full time
Position Overview

We invite Senior Nursing Students, Nurse Graduates, and newly licensed RNs to explore our Nurse Residency Program: Advanced Care Pathway. This program features a rolling application process for various start dates.

The ChristianaCare Nurse Residency Program is distinguished as an accredited Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs.

Evidence shows that newly practicing nurses who complete a structured and accredited residency program experience:
  • Enhanced competency
  • Decreased error rates
  • Lower self-reported stress levels
  • Increased job satisfaction
As such, we are dedicated to assisting all registered nurses with less than one year of experience through a specialized residency track.

This dynamic curriculum includes:
  • Educational lectures and simulation training
  • Peer mentorship
  • Up to 16 weeks of preceptor-led clinical experiences tailored to individual transition needs, focusing on critical thinking, evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, effective communication, quality and safety, and professional growth.
The progressive care nurse resident will undergo preceptor-led training in our intermediate or transitional level step-down units. Following this training, nurse residents will participate in ongoing residency meetings to further their development as professional nurses and integral members of our caregiving team.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will establish a solid foundation for nursing practice in a fast-paced, challenging environment, providing care for medically complex patients outside of the Intensive Care Unit.

Nurse residents must obtain State Board certification and be licensed as an RN in Delaware (or a compact state) before commencing their position. A commitment agreement to work at ChristianaCare will be required upon hire, stipulating a two-year commitment with a minimum of 15 months on the unit of hire. Failure to fulfill this commitment may result in a financial obligation.

Benefits Offered:
  • Recognized as a 3x Magnet Status Hospital
  • Defined growth opportunities through our Clinical Ladder
  • A comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage starting from day one, generous paid time off, paid parental leave, competitive pay with shift differentials, and tuition reimbursement. Additional perks include dependent care assistance, pet insurance, financial coaching, wellness reimbursements, and discounts on various services and events.
  • Enhance your nursing skills by delivering a higher level of care.
Available Units:

Newark:

3C: Intermediate Medical Unit

3D: Transitional Medical Unit

4E: Cardiovascular Stepdown

5E: Heart Failure Unit

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred)
  • BLS certification required
  • Less than 12 months of nursing experience at the program's start
  • Eligibility for Delaware licensure as a Graduate Nurse/Registered Nurse or RN license from a compact state
Application Process:
  • In the application section titled "My Experience," please upload your cover letter and transcripts in the "Resume/CV/Other Documents" section. PDF format is preferred.
  • Submit a cover letter specifically for the Progressive Care Nurse Residency, expressing your interest in this program/specialty.
  • Address your cover letter to the designated recruiter.
  • Resume
  • Transcripts (unofficial)
  • Two clinical recommendations will be required, but not at the time of application. If minimum qualifications are met, further instructions will be provided for submitting clinical instructors' information.
In-person interviews will be conducted regularly, so ensure all required steps are completed for consideration by a hiring manager.

Post-Application Process:

Expect communication from the Talent Acquisition Team regarding next steps, including video interviews and clinical references. Applications will be reviewed by residency coordinators, and offers will be extended once all interviews are concluded.
