This position is part of the 2,600+ professionals at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT), who facilitate access to services that enhance the lives of Minnesotans. This role specifically supports our partners at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) within the Department of Public Safety (DPS). MNIT BCA offers extensive IT operations and support services, custom application development, and specialized business support functions for law enforcement and public safety initiatives. You will contribute to an agency that collaborates with law enforcement and criminal justice entities to prevent and address crime.

As a Desktop Support Analyst, your primary responsibility will be to deliver computer support services for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, deploy, and maintain systems.
  • Provide support for PCs, mobile devices, and software applications.
  • Address inquiries regarding application functionalities and issues.
  • Assist with BCA user software.
  • Conduct hardware installation and maintenance.
  • Configure TCP/IP networks.
  • Administer user accounts within the BCA.
  • Collaborate with other technical personnel within DPS and external vendors.

This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is expected to last up to three (3) years.

This role requires the employee to be onsite with the option to telework occasionally.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position necessitates a minimum of one (1) year of IT-related experience in desktop support.

Experience must encompass:

  • Support for personal computer workstations and mobile devices.
  • Server/client application support.
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to ensure mutual understanding.
  • Customer service skills, including active listening, empathy, and problem-solving abilities.

An associate's degree or higher in Information Technology or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in enterprise support.
  • In-depth knowledge of system hardware.
  • Comprehensive understanding of networking infrastructure.

Physical Demands:

This role requires regular movement and lifting of devices such as desktops, monitors, laptops, and other equipment across various locations, including lifting items onto storage shelves (up to 40 lbs.) and accessing areas beneath desks.
