Job Title:
Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
Actalent is looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist. This position is pivotal in the creation, execution, and oversight of Safety, Health, and Environmental frameworks to ensure adherence to regulations and foster a safe, injury-free workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and support to management, production leaders, and staff on matters related to Safety, Health, and Environmental compliance.
- Act as the primary Safety expert and lead the Safety Committee in all safety-related initiatives, including training, employee engagement in safety programs, monthly safety audits, and site evaluations.
- Oversee the workers' compensation program, including conducting regular claims review meetings, liaising with healthcare providers, employees, and insurance entities, and managing post-incident drug screenings.
- Facilitate the investigation of workplace accidents and incidents to identify root causes and recommend preventive measures.
- Compile and maintain comprehensive statistics and reports on workplace injuries to detect trends necessitating corrective actions.
- Conduct regular audits of Safety, Environmental, and EPA compliance to ensure adherence to regulations.
- Stay updated on safety regulations, laws, and reporting requirements, implementing necessary changes.
- Possess a thorough understanding of OSHA regulations.
- Develop, implement, and sustain all safety protocols.
- Design and deliver safety training programs for new hires and ongoing annual training.
- Manage inventory and procurement of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Identify and assess hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, conducting inspections to evaluate physical conditions and safe work practices, providing compliance advice.
- Coordinate biological monitoring, air quality assessments, and annual hearing tests, ensuring follow-up as needed.
- Maintain the OSHA 300 log and other safety-related records.
- Keep an updated Safety Data Sheet (SDS) file and chemical inventory.
- Conduct regular safety meetings with employees and management.
- Oversee the Near Miss and Safety Suggestion Program.
- Establish and maintain the Environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001 standards.
- Review products and processes for environmental impacts.
- Ensure proper disposal of all waste, including hazardous materials requiring DOT certification.
- Audit and maintain hazardous waste storage areas.
- Manage the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan.
- Serve as the Spill Coordinator.
- Handle all governmental reporting related to Environmental and Safety matters.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree required in EHS or Engineering preferred
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing safety programs
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience managing workers' compensation programs
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience with OSHA regulations
