Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Actalent is in search of an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist. This position is pivotal in the establishment, execution, and oversight of Safety, Health, and Environmental frameworks to ensure adherence to regulations and foster a workplace that prioritizes safety and health.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and support to management, production leaders, and staff on matters related to Safety, Health, and Environmental practices.
  • Act as the Safety specialist for the site, leading the Safety Committee in various safety initiatives, including training, employee-focused safety programs, routine facility safety audits, LOTO verification, and site evaluations.
  • Oversee the workers' compensation program, including conducting quarterly reviews with the safety committee, liaising with healthcare providers, employees, and insurance companies, and managing post-incident drug screenings.
  • Facilitate the investigation of accidents and incidents to identify root causes and recommend preventive measures.
  • Compile and maintain accurate statistics and reports on workplace injuries to detect trends necessitating corrective actions.
  • Conduct and document regular Safety, Environmental, and EPA Audits to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Stay updated on safety regulations, laws, and reporting requirements, making necessary revisions and implementations.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of OSHA regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and uphold all safety protocols.
  • Design and execute safety training programs for new hires and annual mandatory training.
  • Manage inventory and ordering of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Identify and assess hazardous conditions and practices within the workplace, conducting inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices, while providing compliance advice.
  • Coordinate biological monitoring, air sampling, and annual audiograms, ensuring follow-up as needed.
  • Maintain the OSHA 300 log and other safety-related records.
  • Keep an updated SDS file and chemical inventory.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings with employees and management.
  • Oversee the Near Miss and Safety Suggestion Program.
  • Establish, implement, and review the Environmental management system in accordance with ISO14001 standards.
  • Evaluate products, manufacturing processes, and other activities for environmental impacts.
  • Manage the proper disposal of all waste, including hazardous materials requiring DOT certification.
  • Audit and maintain the hazardous waste storage area.
  • Administer the SPCC plan and act as Spill Coordinator.
  • Handle all necessary Environmental and Safety governmental reporting.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

+ Bachelor's Degree required: EHS or Engineering preferred
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing safety programs
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience managing workers' compensation programs
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience with OSHA regulations
