About the Position:

The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks qualified candidates for a temporary role as a Student Support Advisor. This position involves assisting undergraduate and graduate students in various educational programs, including Bachelor's, minors, Master's, and graduate certificate programs in special education and assistive technology. The advisor will collaborate with the Program Advisor to connect students with relevant resources, delineate clear pathways for program completion, assess records for graduation eligibility, and initiate and manage academic actions.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with a diverse group of students regarding degree requirements, application deadlines, registration, program details, and general inquiries;
  • Provide guidance to graduate and undergraduate students in special education and assistive technology programs concerning academic requirements, study plans, and administrative processes;
  • Develop academic course plans for students, utilizing the Navigate Mason system for appointment scheduling and reporting. Facilitate the onboarding process for new students;
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records in compliance with Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations. Use Ellucian Banner (INB) systems to review and update student records as necessary;
  • Ensure prompt and accurate follow-up communication with students and stakeholders;
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to deliver exceptional customer service; and
  • Provide advising support during orientations and recruitment events.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent professional oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential student information;
  • Familiarity with university policies and systems, including Patriot Web and Degree Works;
  • Proficiency in computer applications and the ability to become adept with Ellucian Banner and Salesforce;
  • Proven capability to work effectively as a team member; and
  • Experience in customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with INB/Banner student management system;
  • Understanding of the Navigate Mason system;
  • Knowledge of academic actions, including form processing and catalog policies; and
  • Previous experience in college/university admission, enrollment, or transfer advising.
