Job Overview:
Purpose:
The Program Support Specialist is tasked with delivering essential advising services to military-affiliated students regarding their veteran benefits. This role includes assisting with the preliminary assessment of enrollment for VA benefits and managing communications through the veteran services mailbox. The specialist will work closely with the Director of Military and Veterans Services and the School Certifying Office, ensuring that all interactions are conducted with professionalism and a friendly demeanor. The position requires meticulous record-keeping and effective communication with veteran students across various campuses, along with providing on-site support as needed.

Key Responsibilities: Conduct thorough reviews of veteran benefit enrollment data in collaboration with the school certifying official. Offer benefit guidance to veteran students regarding their academic programs and respond to inquiries related to veteran benefits, including Post 911 and other eligible educational benefits. Address questions from veteran students and their eligible dependents through various communication channels. Manage inquiries and provide information regarding benefits and enrollment through telephone, email, and virtual platforms. Oversee the veteran services inbox, ensuring accuracy and timely responses. Support the procurement of supplies for the military services department. Report directly to the Director while working within the Office of Military and Veterans Services. Required Qualifications:

Essential Skills: Ability to thrive under pressure and meet established deadlines. Competence in setting priorities and making informed decisions based on institutional policies. Proficiency in interpreting and clarifying academic and veteran-related policies. Capability to provide accurate information regarding GI Bill benefits and other veteran education programs. Experience in a dynamic environment with a diverse student body. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, complemented by excellent customer service abilities. Familiarity with benefit processing. Willingness to adapt and learn new systems. Preferred Qualifications: Background in case management or social work. Experience in program development. Knowledge of military and veterans benefits. Customer service experience in an educational setting. Additional Preferences: Established connections within the community and social services. Familiarity with veterans programs in higher education, particularly in community colleges. Experience in an office environment within higher education. Background in direct service delivery from a case management perspective.
