About the Position: The Student Success and Retention Specialist at the College of Science plays a crucial role in supporting students pursuing majors and minors within the college by guiding their academic, professional, and personal development throughout their undergraduate journey. This position, situated within the Office of Academic & Student Affairs dean's office, assists students in formulating educational plans that align with their interests, strengths, and life goals. The Specialist collaborates with Academic Advisors to provide both individual and group academic and developmental advising, aimed at promoting student persistence, retention, timely graduation, and holistic development.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides academic advising for College of Science majors and minors.
  • Develops, implements, and assesses academic support programs and services to enhance student success.
  • Coordinates with faculty advisors to create customized success plans for students.
  • Delivers training sessions on best practices for student success and retention.
  • Collaborates with university stakeholders to improve retention strategies.
  • Assists at-risk students and those on academic warning or probation to facilitate academic success.
  • Supports transfer students and maintains knowledge of course equivalencies.
  • Stays informed on College of Science and university academic policies and resources.

Student Affairs:
  • Contributes to the planning and execution of College of Science Student Affairs events.

File Creation and Management:
  • Utilizes Navigate/CRM to monitor student progress.
  • Creates and maintains advising materials for various purposes.

Performs additional assigned duties, seeks opportunities for office improvement, and suggests implementation recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • Experience in academic advising or a related field (minimum three years).
  • Knowledge of academic advising principles and student development theory.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and office practices.
  • Ability to develop and implement programs and events effectively.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively in diverse settings.
  • Valid Driver's License or ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with student information systems (e.g., Banner, Navigate).
