Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Instructional Assistant to join our team at Frederick County Public Schools. As a Substitute Instructional Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs and implementing their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Students with Special Needs: Assist students with physical and personal care needs, as well as provide emotional support and guidance.
  • Implement IEPs: Work closely with special education teachers to implement IEPs and ensure students receive the support they need to succeed.
  • Communicate with Teachers and Parents: Maintain open communication with teachers and parents to ensure students receive consistent support and guidance.
  • Assist with Classroom Activities: Participate in educational and recreational activities, and assist students with daily tasks and routines.
  • Monitor Student Progress: Regularly monitor student progress and report any concerns or issues to teachers and parents.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a minimum of 48 college credits or an Associate's degree preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for this role.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Drive applications is required.
  • Physical Demands: The ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, as well as frequent bending and walking, is required for this role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree: An Associate's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience Working with Children: Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Students with Disabilities: Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
