Role Overview:
Long-Term Substitute Teachers are tasked with demonstrating essential teaching competencies, effective classroom management, and fostering positive personal qualities among students. The primary objective of the long-term substitute teacher is to ensure equitable instructional opportunities for all students and to cultivate a classroom atmosphere that is engaging, dynamic, and comprehensive. The teaching approach should align with the understanding that education aims at personal growth, the development of individual talents, abilities, and values, as well as the acquisition of knowledge and the pursuit of understanding.

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the school principal, the long-term substitute teacher will:
Address the instructional needs and interests of students through effective daily lesson planning. Create a learning environment that promotes effective use of classroom time. Employ a variety of teaching methods and instructional resources to implement the approved curriculum. Utilize assessments effectively to foster student growth and development across intellectual, physical, social, and emotional domains. Exhibit fair, firm, and consistent behavior towards students while encouraging self-discipline. Demonstrate effective communication skills and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community. Guide the learning process to achieve school system goals and objectives in accordance with school board policies and administrative procedures. Commit to maintaining and enhancing professional competencies. Supervise students in various school settings. Maintain accurate records. Monitor the appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. Ensure regular and predictable attendance. Other duties as assigned by the school principal.

Required Qualifications:
Education/Training/Experience:
An Associate's degree or 60 college credits.
Certification/License:

None required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Understanding and application of culturally responsive practices. Awareness of community resources. Regular and predictable attendance. Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate clearly and audibly in normal conversation and while addressing groups. Capability to travel to various locations as needed. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Work Environment:

Preferred Qualifications:
Education/Training/Experience:
Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited institution. Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills. Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Certification/License:

Possession of a professional teacher certificate issued by MSDE with the appropriate content endorsement.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. Familiarity with FCPS policies, goals, and programs.
