Compensation:
$23.69 per hour

Role Overview:
Long-Term Substitute Teachers are tasked with exhibiting essential teaching skills, effective classroom management, and fostering positive personal attributes. The primary objective of the long-term substitute teacher is to guarantee that all students receive equitable instructional opportunities and to cultivate a classroom atmosphere that is engaging, dynamic, and comprehensive. The instruction provided is anchored in the understanding that education aims to promote personal development, nurture individual talents, and facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the school principal, the long-term substitute teacher is responsible for the following:
Addressing the instructional needs and interests of students through effective daily lesson planning. Creating a learning environment that is conducive to education and optimally utilizes classroom time. Employing a variety of teaching methods and instructional materials to deliver the approved curriculum. Utilizing assessments effectively to encourage student growth and development across various domains. Exhibiting fair, firm, and consistent behavior towards students while promoting self-discipline. Demonstrating effective communication skills and fostering positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community. Guiding the educational process towards achieving school system goals by adhering to policies and administrative procedures. Striving to enhance and maintain professional competencies. Supervising students in diverse school settings. Maintaining accurate records. Monitoring the appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. Exhibiting regular and predictable attendance. Other duties as assigned by the school principal.

Qualifications:

Education/Training/Experience:
An Associate's degree or a minimum of 60 college credits.
Certification/License:

None required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Understanding and application of culturally responsive practices. Awareness of community resources. Regular and predictable attendance. Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate clearly and audibly in normal conversations and on the telephone. Capability to travel to various locations as needed. Ability to maintain emotional composure under stress. Capacity to spend extended periods sitting. Ability to reach with hands and arms. Manual dexterity to handle and manipulate objects and use office technology. Mobility to navigate the work environment. Vision sufficient to read printed materials and identify objects. Hearing ability to comprehend conversations in various settings. Occasional climbing or balancing. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasional lifting of up to fifteen (15) pounds.
Work Environment:

Moderate noise levels typical of a classroom or office setting with computers, printers, and telephones; regular conversations within classrooms, offices, and meeting areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education/Training/Experience:
Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited institution. Exemplary written and oral communication skills. Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Certification/License:

Possession of a professional teacher certificate issued by MSDE with the appropriate content endorsement.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Bilingual proficiency (Spanish). Familiarity with the policies, goals, and programs of Frederick County Public Schools.
