The role of the Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Special Education encompasses the essential practices and behaviors that reflect necessary teaching competencies, effective classroom management, and positive personal attributes. The primary objective of the long-term substitute teacher is to guarantee that all students receive equitable instructional opportunities while fostering a classroom atmosphere that is engaging, dynamic, and comprehensive. The instruction provided is rooted in the understanding that education aims to facilitate personal growth, develop individual talents, abilities, and values, acquire knowledge, and pursue understanding.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the school principal, the long-term substitute teacher is tasked with the following duties:
Address the instructional needs and interests of students through effective daily lesson planning. Establish a classroom environment that promotes learning and optimizes the use of classroom time. Employ a variety of teaching methods and instructional resources to deliver the approved curriculum. Utilize assessments effectively to foster student growth and development across intellectual, physical, social, and emotional domains. Exhibit fair, firm, and consistent behavior towards students while encouraging self-discipline. Demonstrate strong communication skills and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community. Guide the educational process towards achieving school system goals and objectives by adhering to school board policies and administrative guidelines.
