Role Overview:
The Early Childhood Special Education Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting students with special needs, ensuring the effective implementation of their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This position requires collaboration with certified educators and school administrators to provide tailored support to students, which may include physical and personal care assistance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students under the guidance of certified staff.
  • Document and communicate student progress effectively.
  • Prepare and adapt educational materials and assistive devices as needed.
  • Encourage student independence and facilitate their progress.
  • Monitor and assist students during both educational and recreational activities.
  • Provide routine physical and personal care support as required.
  • Assist in achieving IEP goals and objectives.
  • Implement emergency action and health care plans for designated students.
  • Ensure classroom accessibility for all students.
  • Manage work assignments efficiently and seek additional tasks as time allows.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with assessments and documentation.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment.

Additional Duties:
  • Attend IEP meetings and staff gatherings as required.
  • Provide clerical support for the special education program.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms.
  • Basic knowledge of English, spelling, vocabulary, and mathematics.
  • Willingness to engage in training programs related to the role.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate of Arts Degree or relevant college coursework.
  • Experience working with children in educational settings.
  • Familiarity with students with disabilities.
  • Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish.
  • Knowledge of child development and instructional strategies.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and walking.
  • Capability to assist students with mobility and self-care needs.
  • Ability to lift and move a minimum of 50 lbs.
