Compensation:
$23.69 per hour

Position Overview:
Long-Term Substitute Teachers are tasked with demonstrating essential teaching competencies, effective classroom management, and fostering positive personal attributes. The primary objective of the long-term substitute teacher is to ensure equitable instructional opportunities for all students while cultivating a dynamic and comprehensive learning environment. The teaching approach is centered on personal development, nurturing individual talents, abilities, and values, alongside the acquisition of knowledge and understanding.

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the school principal, the long-term substitute teacher will:
Address the instructional needs and interests of students through effective daily lesson planning. Establish a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and maximize the use of classroom time. Employ a variety of teaching methodologies and instructional resources to implement the approved curriculum. Utilize assessments effectively to foster student growth and development across intellectual, physical, social, and emotional domains. Exhibit fair, firm, and consistent behavior towards students while promoting self-discipline. Demonstrate strong communication skills and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community. Guide the educational process towards achieving school system goals by adhering to school board policies and administrative protocols. Commit to ongoing professional development and improvement. Supervise students in various school environments. Maintain accurate records. Oversee the appropriate use and care of educational materials and facilities. Exhibit regular and predictable attendance. Additional duties may be assigned by the school principal.

Qualifications:
Education/Training/Experience:
Possession of an Associate's degree or completion of 60 college credits.
Certification/License:

None required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Understanding and application of culturally responsive practices. Awareness of community resources. Regular and predictable attendance. Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate clearly and audibly in various settings. Capability to travel to various locations as needed. Ability to maintain composure under stress. Capacity to sit for extended periods. Ability to reach and manipulate objects. Mobility to navigate the work environment. Vision sufficient to read and comprehend materials. Hearing ability to engage in conversations and comprehend sounds. Occasional climbing or balancing. Occasional stooping, kneeling, or lifting. Ability to lift up to fifteen (15) pounds occasionally.
Work Environment:

Moderate noise levels typical of a classroom or office setting, including computers, printers, and telephones, along with regular conversations and meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education/Training/Experience:
Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited institution. Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication. Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Certification/License:

Possession of a professional teacher certificate issued by MSDE with the appropriate content endorsement.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Bilingual proficiency (Spanish). Familiarity with FCPS policies, goals, and programs.
