Position Overview:
Alethea Group is on the lookout for a Research Analyst with extensive regional knowledge in South Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, or Southeast Asia, possessing professional proficiency in languages such as an Indian language, Mandarin, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Persian, Indonesian, or other pertinent languages.
In this capacity, you will engage in daily surveillance and perform OSINT investigations concerning social media manipulation and online threats directed at clients, while also assisting in client briefings and training sessions.
It is essential to adapt to a diverse array of client requirements and think innovatively, transforming large volumes of social media data and other relevant information into actionable insights for various stakeholders.
As a member of a startup team, you will also contribute to identifying enhancements in investigative and operational processes and methodologies.
This role is focused on threat analysis rather than policy development.Key Responsibilities:
Deliver daily analyses of social media discussions and investigate cases of manipulation and misinformation for a diverse clientele.
Conduct targeted research and investigations in English and other relevant languages to support the creation of various analytical products.
Spot emerging trends in social media manipulation and misinformation.Oversee and prioritize multiple investigative projects and other responsibilities.
Engage in client meetings and present findings.
Assist in disinformation training initiatives led by Senior Analysts.
Contribute to publicly accessible research to disseminate new trends to the broader research community and the public.
Support customer success and sales teams in developing materials for prospecting or client-facing presentations.
Qualifications:
1-5 years of relevant experience (e.g., research, analysis, investigation, etc.).
Extensive regional knowledge in South Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, or Southeast Asia. Preference for candidates fluent in an Indian language, Persian, Indonesian, or Portuguese.
Willingness to become a subject matter expert in specialized research areas.
Experience in qualitative and quantitative research, with a strong preference for familiarity with social media data analysis (e.g., as part of academic or previous work projects).
A comprehensive understanding—either through research, study, or experience—of one of the following domains: social media research, government and politics (including international relations), misinformation, information operations, violent extremism, quantitative analysis, computer science, or cybersecurity.
Proficient in verbally presenting and writing about complex and varied findings.Able to think strategically, grasp the overarching picture, and, when necessary, act independently and decisively in alignment with the team's best interests and the organization's broader objectives.
Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment that necessitates regular iteration and enhancement of existing products and processes.A collaborative team player with a cooperative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications (Not mandatory):
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social science, computer science, intelligence studies, etc.).
Prior experience analyzing social media data.
Familiarity with the misinformation landscape (e.g., through academic research, training, or previous work experience).
Note:
This position may involve exposure to sensitive or distressing content, including but not limited to offensive language and violent threats.
