About the Department:

The Center for Peace Technology and Entrepreneurship is dedicated to promoting sustainable peace in areas affected by conflict by encouraging entrepreneurship, innovation, and the strategic application of technology.

About the Position:

As a co-director of the Center for Peace Technology and Entrepreneurship within the Carter School, the Director of Research and Practice is instrumental in furthering the Center's mission and enhancing its status as a premier institution for peace, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of Peace Practice Initiatives: Oversee all peace practice activities of the Center, ensuring they align with the organization's mission; Develop and execute strategies for peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and community involvement; Collaborate with various stakeholders to create programs that foster sustainable peace and social unity; Assess the effectiveness of peace practice efforts and adjust strategies as necessary; Work closely with the Carter School Advancement Team on fundraising initiatives, including donor engagement and support proposals.
  • Research Direction: Lead the scholarly endeavors of the Center, including research projects, publications, and knowledge sharing; Partner with faculty and practitioners to develop scholarly initiatives that align with the Center's goals; Cultivate a culture of academic excellence and innovation, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration; Ensure the quality and impact of research outputs, maintaining high standards of rigor.
  • Support for International Policy Initiatives: Collaborate with the Director of Tech, Law, and Policy on initiatives related to international policy and peacebuilding; Provide insights to inform policy development and advocacy at various levels; Represent the Center in relevant discussions and networks, fostering strategic partnerships.
  • KPI and Budget Management: Establish key performance indicators to monitor progress towards organizational objectives; Set budgetary goals and allocate resources effectively; Monitor financial performance, ensuring compliance with budgetary constraints; Regularly report on KPIs and financial metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Team Leadership: Guide and mentor the Center's team, fostering a collaborative environment; Recruit and develop talent, ensuring team members are equipped for success; Delegate responsibilities effectively, promoting accountability; Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a blend of academic credentials, professional experience, and personal qualities that align with the role's responsibilities. Key qualifications include:

  • Leadership Experience: Proven leadership in relevant fields such as peace practice and scholarly research, including experience in managerial roles.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of peacebuilding and entrepreneurship.
  • Academic Credentials: Advanced degrees in international relations, peace studies, or related fields.
  • Financial Management Skills: Experience managing budgets and achieving financial goals.
  • Collaborative Skills: Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strategic Thinking: Proficiency in developing and executing strategic plans.
  • Master's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Proven leadership in peace practice and scholarly research.
  • Strong understanding of peacebuilding and entrepreneurship.
  • Skills in performance measurement and data analysis.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. is preferred for significant contributions to research.
  • Extensive experience in international conflict resolution, including field experience.
  • Experience in multi-source fundraising is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with current trends and challenges in the field is a plus.
