We are looking for a Subaward Management Specialist to oversee subaward processes for designated departments within the organization. This role will assist faculty and staff during the proposal development phase concerning subaward assessments and any inquiries related to subaward management.


Key Responsibilities
  • The Specialist will evaluate incoming subaward requests for accuracy and adherence to guidelines, negotiate favorable terms and conditions with various domestic and international sponsors, and draft alternative language when necessary for the project.
  • This position requires the development, negotiation, and oversight of subawards under primary awards for all types of sponsors, ensuring compliance with applicable terms and conditions while following institutional policies.
  • Complex agreements involving human subjects, international collaboration, and interdisciplinary projects may be part of this role.
  • The Specialist will act as the authorized signatory for certain subaward actions and serve as a liaison to the award team members, and, when needed, to funding organizations for pre-award issue resolution and post-award matters related to subaward activities.
  • The Specialist will collaborate with faculty to provide guidance on subaward documentation for proposal or award submissions and actively participate in troubleshooting and training departmental users of the relevant systems. Familiarity with various software tools will be utilized.
  • This role may involve participation in institutional or departmental committees and requires proficiency in using computers and common office equipment.

Essential Skills

  • The Specialist must possess a solid understanding of research administration compliance, including Responsible Conduct of Research, human subjects, and conflict of interest, to identify and resolve compliance issues.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • The ability to navigate ambiguity and exercise sound judgment is crucial.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team is required.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in research administration, with at least one year in a sponsored research context. Familiarity with negotiation principles and grant management is preferred.
  • Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Some knowledge of negotiation principles is advantageous. Experience in intellectual property management and technology transfer is a plus. Familiarity with specific software tools is beneficial.
