Job Overview

Position: Certified Ophthalmic Technician

Location: Specialist Office


Qualifications Required:
  • Proven experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or Assistant with a minimum of 2 years in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic procedures such as OCT and automated visual fields.
  • Skilled in performing lensometry, automated refractometry, and slit lamp examinations, including assessments of ocular muscle motility and pupil evaluation.
  • Strong organizational abilities with a knack for managing multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Basic understanding of ocular diseases and relevant studies to support the Ophthalmologist in patient care.
  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician or Assistant is mandatory.
  • Current CPR Certification (AHA) is required.
  • High School Diploma or GED is essential; a Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive ocular and systemic history assessments while accurately documenting visual acuity.
  • Review patient records to ensure all information is complete and precise.
  • Perform necessary testing based on the scheduled examination type and patient history.
  • Assist the physician during examinations by entering data into electronic medical records.
  • Administer diagnostic tests, including OCT, automated visual fields, and other necessary evaluations.
  • Provide topical ophthalmic or oral medications as required.
  • Support in-office procedures, ensuring informed consent is obtained and maintaining cleanliness before and after clinical activities.
  • Facilitate patient education regarding their conditions and treatments.
  • Ensure the examination rooms are kept clean and organized throughout the day.
  • Adhere to all practice protocols and comply with State and Federal regulations, reporting any potential errors to the supervisor.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times.
