Unit Description

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Atrium Health University City is a specialized eight-bed unit, ensuring a 2:1 RN staffing ratio. The patient population encompasses medical, surgical, and neurological cases. The unit benefits from 24-hour virtual care ICU support, enabling the management of more critical patients. The staff includes Intensivists during daytime hours and Virtual Care Intensivists during evenings and nights. Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse I delivers professional nursing care through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in alignment with facility or departmental policies and protocols under the guidance of nursing leadership. This role is essential in maintaining a safe working environment and executing all job responsibilities safely. The RN is expected to uphold clinical and professional competency relevant to the patient demographic served.

Essential Functions

  • Gather data pertinent to the healthcare consumer's health status or situation. Analyze assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Establish expected outcomes for a plan tailored to the healthcare consumer or situation.
  • Formulate a plan that outlines strategies to achieve expected, measurable outcomes.
  • Execute the identified plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to promote health and ensure a safe environment.
  • Delegate aspects of care to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
  • Assess progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  • Practice in a manner that respects cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Communicate effectively across all areas of practice.
  • Collaborate with healthcare consumers and other key stakeholders in nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate leadership within the professional practice setting and the nursing profession.
  • Incorporate evidence and research findings into nursing practice.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of quality nursing practice.
  • Evaluate personal and peer nursing practices against professional standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Utilize appropriate resources to plan, deliver, and sustain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and fiscally responsible.
  • Practice in an environmentally safe and healthy manner.
  • Uphold ethical standards in practice.
  • Encourage shared governance and facility decision-making activities, fostering research to positively influence clinical outcomes.

Physical Requirements
Position requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be capable of lifting and supporting the weight of 35 pounds in managing patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English is required. Intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch are necessary. Finger dexterity, critical thinking, and the ability to concentrate are essential. Must be able to respond promptly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Physical Abilities Testing is mandatory.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. BSN is preferred. Current Basic Life Support certification is required per policy guidelines. Must possess a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice or, if applicable, meet the licensure requirements of the primary state of residency.
