Position Overview

Role Summary

The Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Resource Team delivers comprehensive nursing care through proficient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, execution, and evaluation in alignment with organizational or departmental policies, procedures, and/or protocols under the guidance of the nursing leadership. This role is essential in ensuring a secure work environment and executing all related responsibilities safely. The nurse must maintain clinical and professional proficiency relevant to the patient demographics served and be prepared to provide nursing services across all areas of expertise at various facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather data relevant to the healthcare consumer's health status or situation.
  • Evaluate the assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, challenges, and concerns.
  • Establish expected outcomes for a tailored plan addressing the healthcare consumer's needs or circumstances.
  • Formulate a strategy that outlines methods to achieve expected, measurable outcomes.
  • Execute the established plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to enhance health and ensure a safe environment.
  • Delegate care responsibilities to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
  • Assess progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  • Practice in a manner that respects cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Communicate effectively across all areas of practice.
  • Collaborate with healthcare consumers and other key stakeholders in nursing practice.
  • Exhibit leadership within the professional practice environment and the nursing field.
  • Pursue knowledge and skills that reflect contemporary nursing practices and encourage forward-thinking.
  • Incorporate evidence and research findings into nursing practice.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of quality nursing practices.
  • Review personal and peer nursing practices against professional standards and guidelines, relevant laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Utilize appropriate resources to plan, deliver, and maintain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible.
  • Engage in practices that promote a safe and healthy environment.
  • Encourage shared governance and participation in facility decision-making processes, fostering research to positively influence clinical outcomes.

Physical Demands

This role requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is required. The role demands intact sensory functions including sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking and the ability to concentrate are essential, as is the capacity to respond swiftly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Physical Abilities Testing is a requirement.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is mandatory. A minimum of one year of nursing experience in the relevant specialty area is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers as per AHA standards is necessary. A valid RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is required. For those declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as their primary residency, compliance with the licensure requirements of their home state is essential. For non-NLC states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is required. Advancement must align with the criteria of the Professional Nurse Clinical Advancement Program, including experience, approved certification, and nursing education as specified in the program.
