Position Overview

6 Tower is a Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intermediate Care Post-Surgical unit dedicated to delivering thorough nursing care to patients who require more attention than a Medical-Surgical unit but less than an ICU. Nurses on 6T have the chance to care for a diverse range of patients undergoing various surgical interventions, including but not limited to, coronary artery bypass grafts, heart valve repairs and replacements, thoracic and aortic aneurysm repairs, lobectomies, VATS, advanced wound therapies, limb amputations, peripheral vascular bypass grafts, and diagnostic cardiac catheterizations. Additionally, the clinical nurse on 6T manages drains, tubes, invasive lines, interprets cardiac rhythms, and initiates and monitors cardiac drips. Ideal candidates for the RN Clinical Nurse I position on 6 Tower possess exceptional critical thinking abilities, excel in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, actively engage as part of the interdisciplinary care team, and seek opportunities for both personal and professional development.
Job Responsibilities
The RN Clinical Nurse I delivers professional nursing care through proficient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in line with facility or department policies, procedures, and/or protocols under the guidance of the nursing leader. This role includes maintaining a secure work environment and performing all related job duties safely. The nurse is expected to uphold clinical and professional competency relevant to the patient population served.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather data relevant to the healthcare consumer's health or situation. Analyze assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
- Establish expected outcomes for a plan tailored to the healthcare consumer or situation.
- Formulate a plan that outlines strategies to achieve expected, measurable outcomes.
- Execute the identified plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
- Delegate care elements to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
- Assess progress toward achieving goals and outcomes.
- Practice in a manner that aligns with principles of cultural diversity and inclusion.
- Communicate effectively across all areas of practice.
- Collaborate with healthcare consumers and other key stakeholders in nursing practice.
- Demonstrate leadership within the professional practice setting and the nursing profession.
- Incorporate evidence and research findings into practice.
- Contribute to the advancement of quality nursing practice.
- Evaluate personal and others' nursing practices against professional standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
- Utilize appropriate resources to plan, deliver, and sustain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and fiscally responsible.
- Practice in an environmentally safe and healthy manner.
- Uphold ethical standards in practice.
- Encourage shared governance and participation in facility decision-making activities, fostering research to positively impact clinical outcomes.
Physical Requirements
This role requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be capable of lifting and supporting the weight of 35 pounds while handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English is necessary for effective communication. Candidates must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking and the ability to concentrate are essential. Quick responses to changes in patient and/or unit conditions are required. Physical Abilities Testing is mandatory.
Education, Experience, and Certifications
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required. A BSN is preferred. Current Basic Life Support certification is required per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of employment is necessary, or if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as the primary state of residency, the candidate must meet the licensure requirements of their home state; for Non-National License Compact states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is required in the state where the RN practices.
