Job Responsibilities
The RN Clinical Nurse is responsible for delivering thorough nursing care through proficient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation, adhering to facility or departmental policies, procedures, and protocols under the guidance of the nursing leadership. The RN Clinical Nurse plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe working environment and executing all job-related responsibilities safely. The RN Clinical Nurse is expected to uphold clinical and professional competency appropriate to the patient population served. The practice of a registered nurse is directed by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather relevant data and information concerning the health of healthcare consumers or the situation.
- Evaluate the assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
- Determine expected outcomes for a personalized plan tailored to the healthcare consumer or situation.
- Formulate a plan that outlines strategies to achieve expected, measurable outcomes.
- Execute the established plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to promote health and ensure a safe environment.
- Delegate care elements to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
- Assess progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
- Practice ethically and maintain congruence with cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
- Communicate effectively across all areas of practice.
- Collaborate with healthcare consumers and other key stakeholders in nursing practice.
- Exhibit leadership within the professional practice setting and the nursing profession.
- Pursue knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practices and encourages forward-thinking.
- Incorporate evidence and research findings into practice.
- Contribute to the quality of nursing practice.
- Assess personal and others' nursing practices against professional standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
- Utilize appropriate resources to plan, deliver, and maintain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible.
- Practice in a manner that is environmentally safe and healthy.
- Engage in committees, shared governance, or facility decision-making activities, fostering research to positively influence clinical outcomes and promotion. Embody the mission, vision, and values of Atrium Health.
Physical Requirements
This role requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is required. Candidates must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking and the ability to concentrate are essential. The ability to respond swiftly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions is also required. Physical Abilities Testing may be necessary. Additional department-specific physical requirements may be established by the nursing leader.
Education, Training, and Experience
A graduate from an accredited School of Nursing is required; a BSN is preferred. Eligibility for advancement is based on the Nurse Career Professional Program. Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification according to the American Heart Association is necessary. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is required, or if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as the primary state of residency, compliance with licensure requirements in the home state is necessary; for Non-National License Compact states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is required in the state of practice. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated within the department by the nursing leader.
