POSITION SUMMARY

The Aquatic Safety Supervisor is accountable for ensuring the safety and health of all individuals utilizing the aquatic facility. This role emphasizes proactive lifeguarding, identifying potential hazards, and supporting the management of lifeguard personnel. Strong public relations skills are essential as this position involves significant interaction with the community. This is a part-time role with a maximum of 29 hours per week.

MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT: Must be at least 17 years old.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE/LICENSING & TRAINING

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

A High School Diploma or GED is required, or current enrollment in an accredited educational institution, along with one year of experience as a Lifeguard or Water Safety Instructor. A combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform essential functions is also acceptable. Preferred qualifications include strong mathematical abilities, basic recordkeeping skills, cash handling experience, and familiarity with recreational activities and community engagement.

LICENSING & TRAINING:
  • American Red Cross First Aid Certification
  • American Red Cross CPR Certification
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding or Water Safety Instructor certifications.
Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining all required licenses and certifications in active status.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Familiarity with and adherence to American Red Cross standards, along with comprehensive knowledge of emergency action plans relevant to the facility.
  • Assist in training and act as a lead for lifeguard staff.
  • Maintain logs for staffing issues, pool attendance, temperature, chemical levels, and financial records.
  • Take immediate action to ensure patron safety and report any unsafe practices.
  • Secure all access points to the pool area when staff is not present.
  • Complete accident and incident reports accurately and promptly.
  • Assist in instructing swimming lessons or water aerobics classes as needed, and provide feedback for program improvements.
  • Ensure all certifications in first aid, CPR, and lifeguarding are current.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the facility and lifesaving equipment; perform cleaning duties as required.
  • Test water quality as directed.
  • Provide recommendations for enhancements to city recreation facilities and services.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Proper maintenance and usage of equipment.
  • Accurate recordkeeping and cashiering practices.
  • Principles and practices of public recreation.
  • Methods for organizing and supervising recreational programs.
  • First aid and CPR techniques and equipment.
  • American Red Cross standards and emergency action plans.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the public.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff performance.
  • Communicate ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Monitor and assess behavior for safety.
  • Effectively manage facility and program staff.
  • Utilize communication devices and office equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires frequent handling of objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms; climbing; stooping; kneeling; walking; sitting; and communicating effectively. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific auditory abilities include hearing alarms and conversations. Visual acuity is necessary for reading materials and monitoring activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment includes exposure to various weather conditions, particularly high temperatures during summer months. The noise level is typically moderate.
