Required Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from NHA, NCCT, AAMA, or AMT.
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.

Position Description

Medical Assistant Coordinator, Cardiology Department

Shift: Full Time, Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm

We are looking for a skilled Medical Assistant / MA Coordinator with extensive experience in patient care and a solid understanding of specific patient populations.

  • Executes assigned patient care and monitoring tasks under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider, RN, or LPN.
  • Responsible for conducting routine and advanced clinical duties, including but not limited to taking vital signs, administering medications as per clinic policy, performing basic diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining examination rooms in an outpatient setting.
  • Assists in emergency situations as directed by a licensed provider, RN, or LPN.
  • May also handle administrative tasks to support patient and practice operations, including patient check-in/out, responding to inquiries, reinforcing patient and family education, and managing visitor/telephone reception.
  • Maintains patient records and charts, ensuring accurate identification, documentation, routing, and confidentiality.
  • Ensures a clean and safe environment in accordance with Universal Precautions and safety standards.
  • Orders, verifies, and manages unit supplies.
  • All duties and patient interactions are performed in alignment with Emory Healthcare's patient and family-centered care standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary.
  • One year of relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Certification from an accredited medical assistant training program is required.
  • Current AHA BLS certification is mandatory for hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Completion of all medical assistant orientation and training requirements, including certification and annual skills competency, is essential.
  • Current certification as one of the following is required: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA).
  • Preferred certifications include CMA or RMA.
