The Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering both administrative and clinical support under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist patients in preparing for examinations by escorting them to examination rooms.
- Gather comprehensive medical histories and ascertain the purpose of visits.
- Measure and record vital signs, including weight and height.
- Document patient medical histories and vital statistics in electronic health records.
- Ensure treatment rooms are organized and ready for patient examinations.
- Provide a summary of patient histories and notify physicians of any changes in patient conditions.
- Manage laboratory charts and update patient records with examination and treatment outcomes.
- Support in-office examinations and medical procedures, including but not limited to LEEP procedures and IUD insertions.
- Assist physicians during patient evaluations and treatments by providing necessary instruments or materials.
- Coordinate patient testing and follow-up care, including scheduling surgeries and consultations with other specialists.
- Offer guidance to patients regarding treatment options, medications, and dietary instructions.
- Maintain inventory and restock examination rooms and restrooms as needed.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for testing.
- Authorize prescription refills and communicate with pharmacies regarding medication information.
- Ensure cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments and proper disposal of contaminated materials.
- Administer medications as prescribed by healthcare providers.
- Conduct routine laboratory tests and analyze samples.
- Perform general office tasks, such as answering calls and completing insurance documentation.
- Contact medical facilities to arrange patient tests or admissions as required.
- Manage inventory and order medical and office supplies when necessary.
- Adhere to scheduled work hours and report to the practice manager as required.
- Carry out additional front and back-office tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Current certification or registration as a medical assistant is required, with the ability to maintain certification.
Physical Demands:
- Extended periods of sitting and working on a computer.
- Prolonged standing and bending may be necessary.
- Ability to lift weights ranging from 15 to 25 pounds.
- Full range of motion is required.
