Position Overview

Job Title: Expanded Learning Program - Academic College & Career Program Instructor (PI)

The role of the Academic Program Instructor is to deliver educational support, mentorship, and intervention within a secure, nurturing, and interactive learning atmosphere, adhering to the 12 quality standards. This position emphasizes enhancing academic achievement and equipping students with essential skills for their future endeavors. Program Instructors are responsible for leading groups of 10-20 students and designing engaging activities and lesson plans.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly Wage: $23, dependent on experience
  • Weekly Hours: 22-25 hours, plus professional development
  • 16 paid holidays
  • Time off during school breaks and weekends

Essential Qualifications

  • Possession of an (a) Associate Degree or higher, or (b) 48 or more college credits, or (c) successful completion of the Instructional Aide exam
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and TB test clearance
  • Availability to work daily during after-school hours and commitment to the academic year is required
  • General knowledge of core subjects for elementary and middle school
  • Strong classroom management and behavioral guidance skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, parents, community partners, and school personnel
  • Basic technology and computer proficiency (e.g., word processing, email, Google Drive)

Key Responsibilities: (Responsibilities include, but are not limited to)

  • Provide academic coaching, resources, planning, and goal-setting to promote success in high school and college
  • Design skill-building workshops focused on academic achievement and life skills
  • Create, plan, and facilitate educational activities tailored to students' skill levels and state educational standards
  • Collaborate with teachers and students to develop academic intervention strategies
  • Prepare age-appropriate lesson plans that clearly outline instructions for all assignments, including learning objectives, instructional methods, and Social Emotional Learning activities aligned with the 12 quality standards
  • Foster a safe and positive classroom environment while actively supervising and ensuring student safety
  • Exemplify positive and proactive attitudes, behaviors, and language that are professional and child-friendly
  • Participate actively in all staff and agency training sessions and meetings
  • Maintain regular communication and collaboration with the Coordinator, program staff, day staff, and stakeholders
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process as detailed in the EXL Handbook
