About the Position

Oakland Leaf Foundation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Mentor to join our team. As an Academic Mentor, you will play a vital role in providing academic support and instruction to elementary and middle school students in one of our after-school programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that engage students and meet the high-quality standards of our mission.
  • Provide two 1-hour daily academic sessions to assist students with homework and academic success.
  • Implement classroom management strategies, including visible daily agendas and community agreements.
  • Establish consistent structures, routines, and protocols for students to follow.
  • Support students in achieving academic success and developing a growth mindset.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including student attendance tracking and monthly reports.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
Requirements
  • Provide TB clearance and background clearance from the FBI and DOJ.
  • Hold 48 semester college units or pass the Instructional Aide exam.
  • Ability to manage and support a group of 20 students.
  • Ability to plan and prepare lessons and deliver instruction.
  • Commitment to the Oakland Leaf Foundation mission and core values.
Working Conditions
  • Normal school and office conditions.
  • Offsite meetings.
  • Required to work some evenings for events.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Compensation
  • $20 to $25 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Paid school breaks.
