Responsibilities

The Environmental Services Technicians play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of healthcare environments for Veterans and their families. A career in this field means collaborating with fellow Veterans, who represent a significant portion of the housekeeping workforce.

As an Environmental Services Technician, your duties will encompass a comprehensive range of both light and heavy cleaning responsibilities, as well as routine maintenance tasks. The cleanliness of patient areas is paramount, and your skills will be relied upon to promptly address spills, manage waste disposal, replace light bulbs, and ensure floors are vacuumed and polished.

Key responsibilities include cleaning patient wards, rooms, storage areas, offices, hallways, restrooms, and other designated spaces. Technicians will perform tasks such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing floors, vacuuming carpets and upholstered items, emptying waste receptacles, cleaning light fixtures and blinds, washing walls, windows, and ceilings, and restocking restroom supplies. Technicians are expected to carry out their duties with minimal supervision.

Work Schedule: Night shifts with varying hours, including weekends and holidays

Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): This position may qualify for a Critical Skills Incentive in addition to the standard salary. Eligible candidates may receive a lump sum CSI if onboard prior to the expiration date of the incentive. Candidates will be required to sign a service agreement committing to a specified service period.

Physical Demands: The position requires continuous walking, standing, bending, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The role may involve the use of heavy cleaning equipment weighing over 50 pounds.

Work Environment: Work is primarily conducted indoors with adequate heating, lighting, and ventilation. Some tasks may require outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Personal protective equipment may be necessary in certain situations due to potential exposure to infectious materials.

Additional Information

This position is eligible for a Critical Skills Incentive through a specified date. Candidates may qualify for a lump sum CSI based on their appointment date.

Federal employees earn annual leave based on their years of service. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual based on prior work or military service.
