POSITION SUMMARY:

The ideal candidate will be fearless in engaging with diverse audiences, adept at improvisation, and committed to creating memorable experiences for our volunteers.

The Volunteer Host serves as a representative of the Houston Food Bank's volunteer initiatives. This position is tasked with delivering an exceptional and enjoyable volunteer experience by warmly welcoming participants, creatively engaging them throughout their activities, and providing outstanding service in a dynamic environment. This role involves leading and supporting groups of volunteers, including addressing audiences of up to 1,000 individuals.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Welcoming and Orienting Volunteers

  1. Enthusiastically greet and welcome volunteers, ensuring they feel valued from the moment they arrive.
  2. Conduct engaging orientation sessions for large groups, setting a positive tone for their volunteer experience.

Engagement and Presentation

  1. Guide volunteer groups through their projects with a lively and entertaining approach, maintaining high energy levels.
  2. Utilize storytelling and interactive activities to keep volunteers motivated and engaged throughout their shifts.

Excellence in Customer Service:

  1. Deliver exceptional service, addressing volunteer inquiries and concerns with a positive attitude to ensure a rewarding experience.
  2. Ensure every volunteer feels supported and appreciated, fostering a desire to return and engage further with the Houston Food Bank.

Safety and Efficiency:

  1. Oversee volunteer activities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and effective project execution.
  2. Manage volunteer group coordination smoothly, adapting to last-minute changes and special events.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  1. Work closely with team members to maintain an organized and well-supplied project area.
  2. Participate in team meetings to share insights and continuously improve the volunteer experience.

Quality Control:

  1. Inspect completed tasks for quality assurance, ensuring all outputs meet high standards.
  2. Maintain cleanliness in project areas and promptly report any equipment issues.
  3. Consistent attendance and punctuality are required to meet the needs of the organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED; some college or a bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of public speaking experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in hospitality, event coordination, or similar roles.
  • Previous volunteer experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Must possess reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and insurance. Capability to operate an electric pallet jack is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Regularly required to analyze data, communicate, and remain standing for most of the workday. Frequent movement around the facility and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds are necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in various settings, including warehouse and kitchen environments, with exposure to temperature-controlled areas and varying noise levels.

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

Travel may be required for this position within the service area.
